YOU Are Needed

Attention Outward Bound alumni, current and former staff, and all those who care about people and the planet:
You may know the creation story of Outward Bound--of young merchant sailors perishing after their ships were sunk in the North Sea during World War II. You may know the qualities Kurt Hahn extolled: "an enterprising curiosity, an indefatigable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self-denial, and above all, compassion."
You may know the stories, but do you understand WHY? Why were you trained to put aside discomfort to embrace the challenges of an expedition? What did you learn about supporting your crew, serving on watch, reflecting during solo, and overcoming whatever adversity the circumstances of your expedition threw at you? And how did you--and how will you continue--to apply what you learned in service to others? That is, after all, the point of your experience.
In case you haven't noticed the world seems to be in a really bad place right now. I recently watched a documentary by French filmmaker Emmanuel Cappellin called Once You Know. It offers a sobering view of the existential crisis we are facing--a crisis that requires extraordinary compassion, leadership and community building skills to help us navigate the great challenges of our time. Outward Bound was born in crisis. This is why you were trained--For this moment!
But maybe you're not sure where to start--what you can do? Don't worry, we've got you covered!
YOU ARE NEEDED
In conjunction with HahnX Partner Youth Lead Change, a Miami, Florida based non-profit, we are excited to offer you the opportunity to become a Certified Mentor. You will receive access to the course "Guiding Young Peacebuilders," which you may complete at your own pace online. You will learn to mentor young people as they develop the skills of resilience, active listening, self awareness, empathy and compassion.
We will also welcome you to HahnX, where you will join other mentors in our newly launched online community. In early 2022 you will be paired with a high school student-leader as their mentor, supporting them as they launch projects for the winter and spring in their schools and communities.
You will have access to all of the tools and support of the HahnX community to deepen your own skills and you will get to join a circle of simply remarkable people. Your membership will allow you to access additional learning and connect with amazing, like-minded members from around the world.
The Guiding Young Peacebuilders Course has a retail cost of $500. HahnX annual membership is an additional $228. If you are willing to commit a bit of your time we are willing to give you access to this online training and full access to the HahnX community platform at no cost.
